Dr. Edward C. Bush is the President of Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, Ca where he has served since July 1, 2015. 

Dr. Bush in an innovative leader that has been able to reimagine traditional institutional practices. His innovative approach including the implementation of guided pathways have led to improvement of student outcomes while reducing gaps in achievement for students of color and other historically marginalized student populations. Dr. Bush is a student success focused leader with a clear vision and data driven expertise in leading organizations through periods of change and structural disruption designed to meet the evolving needs of students and the communities in which they serve.


Dr. Bush was raised by his mother and father who were both K-12 educators who were raised in Mississippi.  Lawson and Catherine Bush IV instilled in him and his 3 older siblings the importance of God, family, education, and services.  Dr. Bush has used these values as the foundation for his personal and professional life. Dr. Bush has been married to Dr. Jenise Bush since 1995 and have raised two successful adult children who both graduated from Historical Black Colleges and University.

Early education

Raised in Pomona, Ca Dr. Bush was actively engaged in his school community.  Dr. Bush was elected Student Body President and participated in three varsity sports.  Dr. Bush activism and leadership continued when attended the University of California Riverside where Dr. Bush was a leader with the African Student Union and was instrumental in advancing issues of racial equity and justice; including but not limited to the development of the first Pan-African residential hall and the creation of scholarships for incoming African American students. Dr. Bush later went on to attend California State University, San Bernardino earning his Master’s Degree in Public Administration and his doctorate from Claremont Graduate University in Urban Educational Leadership. 


Dr. Bush was licensed into the ministry in 2002 at Imani Temple Christian Fellowship in Pomona, California, under the leadership of Bishop J. Faraji Kafela.  During his service at Imani Temple, he served as Youth Pastor and coordinator of the young men’s Rites of Passage Program.

In 2015 Dr. Bush was ordained at Immanuel Praise Fellowship under the leadership of Bishop Kelvin and Prophetess La Quetta Simmons.  Where he provided leadership for the men’s ministry, the Levites Program, and the Rites of Passage program for young men. 

Pastor Ed as he is called by at his church is known for his empowering messages on Spiritual Consciousness and Self-Empowerment. Pastor Ed has a calm and powerful presence that has transformed the lives of both adults and youth. He is active in the community, serving as a guide to those who are unable to see the God within themselves. Pastor Ed’s purpose as a pastor is to preach a Gospel that seeks to liberate the hearts, minds and spirit of African people that will restore their belief in themselves and their God. His messages focus on restoring the economic, cultural, political, and spiritual sovereignty of God’s chosen people.

With over 22 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Bush leadership experience further includes his involvement on statewide committees and initiatives.  He currently serves as the Area 2 representative for the California Community College League CEO Board, the CEO Representative for the state’s Chancellor Office Diversity. Equity, and Inclusion Committee as well as the Chancellor’s Office Student Success Metrics Taskforce.
